If you’re standing at a career crossroads, feeling stuck or stretched, you’re not alone. Whether you’re wrestling with stalled growth, leadership challenges, or the never-ending juggle between work and life—executive coaching can be the clarity, support, and strategy you’ve been looking for.
That said, coaching is not a quick fix or a plug-and-play solution. It’s a collaborative journey—and the more intentional you are about it, the more powerful it becomes.
Let’s unpack what it takes to really maximize executive coaching, and answer a few of the most common questions I hear from clients just getting started.
So, How Do You Get the Most Out of Coaching?
The short answer? Come in with curiosity, commitment, and clarity.
The longer answer: here’s what makes coaching really work.
✦ Set Clear Goals—Together
The best coaching starts with a conversation about what matters most to you. That might be crystal clear, or it might be buried under layers of burnout, self-doubt, or decision fatigue. Either way, we’ll get there—together.
We co-create goals that are meaningful, motivating, and aligned with your values. Not goals you “should” have—goals that reflect who you are and who you want to be.
✦ Show Up Fully (Even When It’s Messy)
You don’t need to have it all figured out. What you do need is a willingness to dig in, reflect, and be honest—with yourself and with me. Coaching is a partnership built on trust, and that means showing up as you are: ambitious, overwhelmed, curious, frustrated… all of it is welcome here.
✦ Keep It Consistent
Regular sessions matter. They create rhythm, momentum, and accountability. Whether we’re meeting bi-weekly or monthly, consistency allows us to track your progress, address new challenges as they come up, and celebrate the wins along the way.
Clients who stay engaged between sessions—reflecting, trying new approaches, checking in with themselves—see the biggest transformations.
How Often Should You Meet With a Coach?
Most of my clients meet with me every two to four weeks. That gives enough time to apply what you’re working on without losing momentum.
But coaching isn’t rigid—it flexes with you. If you’re navigating a transition, we might meet more often. If you’re in a steadier season, we might space things out. The frequency is always shaped by what you need to stay supported and challenged.
What Does Coaching Actually Look Like?
Here’s a high-level view of how it usually works:
- We start with a deep dive—a conversation (and sometimes assessments or feedback tools) to get a full picture of where you are, what’s showing up, and where you want to grow.
- We co-create a plan—not a cookie-cutter checklist, but a real, flexible roadmap based on your goals, your challenges, and your unique leadership style.
- We meet regularly—in confidential 1:1 sessions where we reflect, explore, build new strategies, and troubleshoot what’s not working.
- You take action—between sessions, you’ll test new approaches, set boundaries, have hard conversations, or try out a new leadership practice. I’m here to support you every step of the way.
- We track your growth—celebrating the shifts, adjusting the plan, and continuing to stretch toward what’s next.
Coaching Is a Partnership—Not a Prescription
The most successful clients aren’t the ones with the most “perfect” plan. They’re the ones who show up willing to learn, test, reflect, and grow. They know that coaching is a container—a space to be real, to reset, and to evolve.
If you’re ready to do that work, coaching can help you unlock the kind of change that lasts—not just in your career, but in how you move through the world.
